Nikki Haley:
“This is not how they want to raise their families; they are overwhelmed, heart-broken. And they are suffering, they’re suffering because their children aren’t in schools; in order to go out and get anything, they have to leave of the camp. The women are very susceptible to rape when they leave the camp. And so there is a lot of pain and a lot of suffering that has happened.
You saw the one woman, Angellique, her story is one that’s not different from a lot of the people that live here. She has been raped twice, it clearly was traumatic. Through those problems that she has, she has seven children and her husband left her because she was having trouble coping. There is not enough psychological support that will ever treat her. You can have her in therapy every day, all day, she is wounded. And she is wounded from the inside and she is wounded on the outside, you know?
Then you heard the stories of the women that don’t have the ability to go to a hospital, so they have to deliver babies right here in unsanitary conditions, so they have a lot of problems with death during childbirth.”
Can you truly look the other way, shut your ears, and cross your arms while all of this is happening? Can you really stay quiet while fathers, women, and children are suffering this much?
If you can help in any way, shape, or form, do not hesitate!
